Chicago, Illinois · Est. by Diego Maya
Every hull, every rail, every inch of brightwork — finished with the care of a shipwright and the eye of a craftsman. Serving every harbor on the Chicago lakefront.
Eleven years of hands-on marine detailing. Three years trained as a shipwright working with varnish, teak, and wood restoration. A rare combination in this industry — and the reason owners trust Lumen with boats that deserve more than a rushed weekend wash.
Every job is approached the same way: slowly, methodically, and with respect for the boat. There are no shortcuts, no rushed jobs, no harsh chemicals that will strip your gelcoat next season. Just the right technique for the right surface — every time.
We don't try to be everything. We focus on the work we've mastered over a decade — and deliver finishes that speak for themselves.
A thorough exterior wash with marine-safe soap, plus a full interior clean — decks, cockpit, windows, seats, and all soft surfaces. Ideal between weekend trips or before a client showing.
Machine compounding and waxing to restore faded, oxidized gelcoat. This is the work that transforms a dull hull back into one that turns heads at the marina — no wash included, designed for boats that are already maintained.
The most requested service. Combines the thorough wash and interior clean with full buff-and-wax restoration. Your boat leaves looking, feeling, and smelling like a premium vessel — inside and out.
Three years of shipwright training behind every stroke. Full restoration of mahogany, teak, and all varnished wood surfaces: cap rails, dashboards, handrails, cabin trim. Stripped, sanded to bare wood when needed, then built back up with marine-grade varnish coat by coat. The result is the glassy, deep finish seen in the photos below.

No shortcuts. No harsh chemicals. No rushed jobs.
We walk the boat with you, note every issue, and explain what each surface needs before we touch a single tool.
Wash, decontamination, taping, and careful masking of vulnerable fittings. The foundation of every clean finish.
Compound, wax, varnish, or polish — done by hand and by machine in measured stages. This is where the craft shows.
We inspect every surface with you before signing off. If anything isn't right, we fix it on the spot — no exceptions.
